First of all, thank you for writing something I relate to. I used to shoot friend’s wedding purely for the pleasure of shooting it and giving them some candid moments from the wedding, which the conventional “Professional Photographer's” don't try to shoot (At least in those days).
I have had similar experiences in most of the weddings. I used to use a basic prosumer Canon 60D and a cheep nifty fifth. One of those days I was made to leave the wedding stage, as I was blocking the view of the “Professional Photographer” (I was like a meter away from him as I didn't want those straight to the face shitty angles he was shooting from.) I felt sad, but instantly became happy when I saw his photos. He had no idea how to do white balance. His photos were as yellow as a sunflower due to the tungsten video lights.
Later that day when the rush was over, I intentionally went and sat near him and started reviewing photos from my camera, so as to let him see my photos. I could see the glow of his face fading away when he compared his and my photos. He was about to ask me something when I walked away pretending I didn't see him. My sweet revenge taken!
