Jayquisitive & Séamus McNally,

I completely agree with both of you. Cameras have advanced a lot over the years. Phones like pixel 4 and iPhone 11 have capable cameras that give comparable results with these said “professional” grade cameras. I also use a Samsung galaxy s10e, which decent camera capabilities as a secondary camera.

I taught of going on with a Sony RX100 series or a Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III had crossed a couple of times through my mind before I made my decision to buy a Fuji.

Some of the main reasons I went with a “conventional” camera are;

  1. The freedom to choose your focal length (Change the lens, change your view)
  2. Low light performance. (Its a very big factor and I don’t think they could match any sooner due to the sensor size differences.)
  3. Batter battery back up (Mobile phones eat up the battery a lot faster)
  4. Feeling of shooting with a real camera.
  5. More features in a convention interchangeable camera. (As I used to do professional photos, I needed the full freedom to choose how my image is made.)

Above are some of the point which comes to my mind right now. But still, in this age of social media, mobile phones provide enough performance to fulfill its purpose.

and in your case Séamus McNally, I think a“Bridge Camera” like the Sony RX100 series will serve the purpose of being lighter than a mirrorless.

Happy Clicking.
